The Williston Vector Control District is tentatively scheduled to conduct an aerial adulticide treatment for all Williston blocks between June 9 and June 11.

Treatment will take place near sunset, weather and conditions permitting.

Williston Vector Control uses Zenivex E20 for adult mosquito control treatments (adulticides), which contains the active ingredient Etofenprox. Zenivex E20 is a product approved for use in residential areas by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

To avoid mosquito bites, citizens are advised to take extra precautions when spending time outdoors during the hours of dusk to dawn. Wearing long sleeve tight knit shirts and long pants, limiting time outdoors during these times, and using a mosquito repellent such as DEET, Picardin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus are good actions to take to prevent bites. Citizens can help prevent mosquito re-population by eliminating standing water on their property.

Here is some information from the CDC on arial spraying for pests:

Aerial spraying is used to:

Control and reduce the number of mosquitoes, some of which can spread viruses.

Help reduce your chances of getting infected with viruses. What are airplanes spraying? Airplanes spray products that quickly kill either mosquito larvae or adult mosquitoes to reduce the number of mosquitoes in an area.

Larvicides kill larvae that hatch from eggs within 1-4 days, depending on the product. For more information: https://www.epa.gov/mosquitocontrol/controlling-mosquitoeslarval-stage

Adulticides kill adult mosquitoes immediately, but do not provide long-lasting control. For more information: https://www.epa.gov/pesticides

Airplanes spray very low volumes of either adulticide or larvicide into areas where mosquitoes are spreading viruses.

Aerial spraying occurs sometime between the early evening, close to sunset, and the early morning, close to sunrise.

Aerial spraying is more effective and faster than truckmounted or handheld sprayers in treating large areas of land.
