Living in North Dakota, we know just how nice the state really is. How you capture it and enjoy it daily is different for all of us. Several friends of mine have an eye for photographing the beauty in our state. I plan to introduce you to them in the months to come. Today is the day I get to introduce you to Linda Howard. Linda was our business manager here at the station and has taken pictures since she was a young girl.

Buffalo

When I saw some of her work, I pressed her about how many classes she has taken, and she responded that she only took one class in high school. After that, it was basically practice, practice, practice. She had a friend who was a professional photographer from New York that gave her a lot of tips. His best tip was the 3 step rule. Basically, no matter what you are taking pictures of, once you take your first shots, take 3 steps to the left of your original position, 3 steps to the right, and 3 steps back. Just doing that can totally change the perspective of your photos.

Horses

Here is the best part about Linda and her hobby. She does not spend a lot of money on her cameras or equipment. They are usually under $500.00 with some zoom capability. She has always owned Canons until she bought a Panasonic DCFZ80 three years ago. She alternates between that and the Canon SX60HS.

Wild Horses

When Linda is not in Medora, she spends her time on the backroads near Golva, Sentinel Butte, and the West River Road. Folks have gotten used to seeing her in her vehicle parked by the side of the road with her camera in hand. Not only is Linda one of the nicest people you will meet, but she is also truly talented with her camera.

So, let's take a look at some more wildlife through the eyes of Linda and her camera.
