The Polar Plunge is a series of events where people go to the extreme to support Special Olympics North Dakota. Every year brave people line up to take an icy plunge. Special Olympics North Dakota invites you to be 'freezin' for a reason' at a Polar Bear Plunge. There will be North Dakota Polar Bear Plunges this year in Williston, Minot, Bismarck, Fargo and Grand Forks .

Williston's event is Saturday, April 1st at the Upper Missouri Valley Fairgrounds at 12:30pm. Local participants will take a chilly dip in a pool. The Williston Police Department has signed up to be an Iceberg Sponsor and is looking for other local businesses that would like to help sponsor this event as well. This is a unique opportunity for individuals, businesses and organizations to support Special Olympics North Dakota. Volunteer and sponsors are needed for the day.

A significant amount of money is raised for Special Olympics and the athletes through the polar plunge, which is sometimes done in conjunction with a Law Enforcement torch run. In order to participate, individuals or teams collect pledges from friends, family, and colleagues to lock in their spot. The Polar Plunge includes a number of fun contests (which are free for participants to compete in): Best Costume, Youngest Plunger, Oldest Plunger, Most Money raised by an Individual, Most Money raised by a Team, and the Best Belly Flop.

Are you ready to do something wild for something good? Every dollar you raise supports Special Olympics North Dakota. Have fun!- form a team, create a fun name, and crazy costumes with family, friends, classmates and co-workers. Plungers raise the minimum amount of $100.00 to take the plunge and some will go above and beyond to make a greater impact.

Helping the athletes depends on your participation. All year long they receive training and competition in sports thanks to the money raised. Athletes benefit from your involvement and support in helping them reach their goals, lead better lives and feel included in the community.
