Step Back in Time: Living History Weekend at Ft. Buford Brings the Past to Life!
As Summer continues in the Mon-Dak Region, there are still many things going on! I caught a poster over the weekend promoting the Living History Weekend at Ft. Buford.
This year's annual living history encampment will take place at Fort Buford State Historic Site in North Dakota on Saturday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. It will feature historical talks as well as demonstrations of how life in the United States Army was in the year 1876.
The lectures will take place within and around the newly reconstructed barracks at the Fort Buford State Historic Site, located west of Williston and immediately off Highway 1804. The remains of an important military outpost on the plains of the frontier are preserved at the Fort Buford State Historic Site. In 1866, construction began on Fort Buford, which would later become an important supply depot for military operations in the field. The fort was located close to the confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone rivers. The location of the post cemetery, a big officers' quarters building that has since been converted into a museum, and a stone powder magazine are some of the original elements that have been preserved on the site.
At the annual living history encampment, you can observe the rifle and canon display at 2:00 pm, and then spend the rest of the day watching demonstrations of the telegraph, weather station, Signal Corps, army life, and washing clothing.
